Vulnerable Communities

My advocacy for vulnerable communities began decades ago, when I coordinated Massachusetts’ Homeless Hotline program with Bobby Kennedy's daughter, Kathleen Kennedy Townsend.

More recently, I served six years on the Tempe Community Council, a citizen-based advisory board that brings together individuals, businesses, and organizations to strengthen Tempe's human-service programs and to advise where our public funds are apportioned.I helped shepherd Tempe Leadership Class XXV ’s Shower Power project and raised funds to sustain the project for years to come. We partnered with local businesses, Tempe Chamber of Commerce, Tempe Community Action Agency, the interfaith community, and the community to create a mobile-shower trailer for Tempe’s working homeless population.

There is a homelessness crisis in Tempe and across the Valley, and I lead a City Council Working Group that is building a Housing First program for Tempe. I work closely with the city's Homelessness Task Force Coalition to bring residents into our decision making.

As your council member, I will always advocate for the human services and be a voice for the voiceless.
